On October 1st this year, the Huhu water ecology scenic area – combining “red revolution” and “green tourism” -- will be a new scenic site at Shijiazhuang, the provincial capital.

Situated in Pingshan county, the Huhu water ecology scenic area combines spectacular peaks, valleys, ancient temples, limestone caves, waterfalls, cliffside coffins, virgin forests, lush vegetation, and a patriotic education base. It is both a natural and historical wonder of Taihang Mountains. Moreover, the Huhu Hydraulic Power Station here, built under the direction of Commander-in-Chief Chu Teh during the War of Liberation, was the first hydraulic power station constructed by our Party and army. Completed in 1947, it was known as the “Red Power Station” and a “pioneering work of the Border Region.” The station was turned over for civilian use in 1955. The local government expanded the station in 1975, which was integrated into the Shijiazhuang electricity grid. The original power apparatus is no longer in operation but has been preserved as a historical monument. Later the power station was named as a patriotic education base.
