To commemorate the 54th anniversary of the founding of PRC, a “red tourism” program entitled “Return to Xibaipo” has been developed by the Beijing Tourist Reception Center of the people’s government of Pingshan county, Hebei Province, and the Xibaipo Service Center for the History of the Party and the Nation.
Xibaipo in Pingshan county, located only 300 km away from Beijing, is a revered revolutionary site that is just as famous as Ruijin, Jinggang Mountains, Zunyi and Yan’an. Here you can find the former residences of Mao Tse-tung, Liu Shao-chi, Chou En-lai, Chu Teh, Ren Bishi and other leaders, and the sites of the Central Committee and the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China. You can also visit the superb Xibaipo Museum with its fine collection of memorabilia. There is also the Gangnan Reservoir, General Ridge -- a peak associated with heroism, the hometown of Baimaonv (the White-haired Girl), Mount Tiangui (an AAAA state-level scenic site), and a hot spring (also a state-level site for tourism) which gained fame after Liu Che, Emperor Wudi of the Han Dynasty, bathed in it to cure his illness.
Recently, leaders of the Party and the government of Pingshan county went to Beijing to promote tourism in Pingshan, together with the former host of the house that Comrade Dong Biwu (a top Communist leader) used to live in.
